1. Philip ll- King of Macedonia; dreamed of taking control of Greece and then moving against Persia to seize its vast wealth.
Macedonia- Located just north of Greece, had rough terrain and a cold climate.
Alexander the Great- Took control of Macedonia after the stabbing and killing of his father (proclaimed himself king)
Darius lll- The Persian king who was alarmed by Alexander the Great's victory at Granicus.
3. Philip was able to conquer Greece by transforming the rugged peasants under his command into well-trained professional army. He organized his troops into phalanxes of 16 men across and 16 deep, each one armed with an 18-foot pike.
4. Alexander was more interested in conquering as much land and treasures as possible instead of governing what he already had.
5. The generals fought among themselves for control of his empire.
